David becomes king of Israel,
He moves the capital city to Jerusalem.
The call of God was upon the David's life.
Israel had been engulfed in a civil war.
King Saul was dead,
Saul's last surviving relative, was Ish-bosheth,
Ish-bosheth means Man of shame, (do right, in this life)
Ish-bosheth was the first in line to Saul's throne,
Ish-bosheth was the second king of Israel
Ish-bosheth was proclaimed king over Israel by Abner,
the captain of Saul's army
Ish-bosheth lost the loyalty of his own military chief, Abner,
Abner went secretly over to David's cause after being accused by Ish-bosheth of sleeping with one of Saul's concubines. (Drama)
In the process of mobilizing support for David's cause,
Abner was slain by his rival, Joab.
Ish-bosheth is assassinated by two of his own captains.
God had chosen David to be king of Israel.
God had called David to be king of Israel.
All of us have a calling upon our life!
God CALLED David.
He's chosen David to be the king.
The leaders of Israel said, in verse 2 of our passage, “It was you who led out and brought in Israel.” David had been a great warrior and leader during the times that Israel was having skirmishes with their neighbors.
Verse 10, “And David became greater and greater,
for the Lord, the God of hosts, was with him.”
God placed his call on the life of David,
and he remained with him. God CALLS us Like David,
God also places his call on our lives.
we are called to several things.
We are called to repentance, to the service of God.
We are called to be our Brother's keeper,
We are called to walk circumspectly,
We are called to love God and others,
We are called to a holy life.
We are called to work; while its day,
We are called to let our light so shine,
We are called to make a joyful noise unto the Lord,
We are called to resist the devil,
We are called to try the spirit, and see....
We are called to love the Lord thy God,
We are called to make a difference,
The call of God is on all who are His followers.
We all have the call of God on our lives.
It’s not always easy to follow the call of God for our lives.
Sometimes we have to struggle with ourselves before we can embrace God’s call on our life.
All of Israel recognized the CALL of God on David’s life.
verse 2, “And the Lord said to you,
‘You shall be shepherd of my people Israel, and you shall be prince over Israel.’”
God called David to be their king.
God had empowered David to be a mighty warrior.
They knew that God had called him.
Verse 3, “So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron, and King David made a covenant with them at Hebron before the Lord, and they anointed David king over Israel.”
There are areas in life in which you have been anointed,
Anointed to encourage,
Anointed to bless others,
Anointed to teach, preach,
Anointed to sing, administrate, organize,
Anointed to work behind the scenes,
Anointed to bring together, pick-up,
That anointing is like a burning... that won't let you hold your peace.
It's that anxiety, that uneasiness, that burden, that pull,
that keeps tugging at your heart, mind, spirit, and soul.
Have you sensed a tug lately?
Have you sensed that God is tugging at you lately?
Have you found yourself burdened by an anointing that God has put on your life,
a calling to this, a passion for that?
God Called David,
God is Calling Us,
